Meet Dr. Cobb

Dr. Stu Cobb is an Iowa City native, graduating from City High School.  He first attended Iowa State University, but then saw the error of his ways (sorry, Cyclone fans!) and transferred back to the University of Iowa.  He received both his bachelor’s degree and dental degree from the U of I.  Dental school was a great experience, but by far the best part was meeting a classmate, Deb Scheckel, who shockingly said “yes” to a marriage proposal in 1982.  Upon completion of dental school, Stu joined the U.S. Navy Dental Corps and he and Deb moved to San Francisco.  Stu did a one year hospital-based general practice residency at a Navy hospital in the Bay area and then practiced as a general dentist for the Navy in San Francisco for the next 3 years.  Deb practiced as a civilian dentist in Menlo Park, California.  During his Navy stint, Stu developed an interest in endodontics and decided he wanted to specialize.  After a wonderful four years in gorgeous northern California (including the addition of their daughter, Valerie),  the Cobbs moved back to Iowa City in order for to Stu start his endodontic specialty training at the U of I while Deb joined the faculty as a general practitioner.  These few years were quite busy for Stu and Deb as they each began their careers and at the same time welcomed Bryan, another addition to their family.  Stu stayed at the College of Dentistry as a Department of Endodontics faculty member for 2 years.  Since 1990, Stu has been in private endodontic practice in Iowa City, joining Endodontic Associates of Iowa in 2005.

Aside from practicing endodontics, Dr. Cobb enjoys fishing (anywhere, anytime!), hiking, reading and Hawkeye sports events.  Deb is still at the College of Dentistry, now serving as graduate program director in the Dept. of Operative Dentistry.  Bryan is a medical student at the U of I and was married to his wife, Kate, in 2012.  Kate is currently pursuing a graduate degree at Mount Mercy University.  (It’s great to have your favorite son and daughter-in-law living just a mile away!).  Valerie is now a nurse in Ft. Collins, Colorado and is married to Bryce Schroder.  Bryce is also a grad student, wrapping up his PhD at Colorado State University.  Val and Bryce have two wonderful children, Kayla and Anthony. Stu and Deb have discovered grandchildren are indeed game-changers, and have kept United and Frontier Airlines afloat the last few years by flying to Colorado whenever they can.  (Note to Val/Bryce…please move back to Iowa!).
