Meet Dr. Maktabi
Dr. Omar Maktabi, DDS, MSD is an Iowa City native and attended West High School. He was recruited to the University of Michigan wrestling team in Ann Arbour where he earned his Bachelor of Science with a major in French and Francophone studies in his “free time”. After wrestling for four years in the Big Ten conference, he decided it was time to come home to Iowa City and attend dental school at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Omar’s father practiced at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as an anesthesiologist for many years and transferred to Harvard Mass General in Cambridge, MA during Omar’s third year. After earning his DDS, Omar pursued Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Michigan where he improved his skills in treatment planning, attained more experience in endodontics, and learned complicated restorative procedures. Furthermore, the AEGD gave him extensive knowledge in the area of digital dentistry including the use of ceramics, zirconia, CEREC, and LAVA COS. Next, Omar moved to the west coast and completed his endodontic residency at the prestigious Loma Linda University under the direction of Dr. Mahmoud Torabinejad, the world-renowned endodontist responsible for the development of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). During his training, Omar earned his masters degree based on his research in the use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging. In Omar’s free time he enjoys Reading history and The Journal of Endodontics, weight lifting, playing Risk (It’s a board game), keeping up with wrestling and college football, and watching the American Heroes channel. We are very excited to have Dr. Maktabi join our team at Endodontic Associates of Iowa.
